Who is Warren Bingham?

Warren Bingham is the Founder and Executive Chairman of MedTech International who has spearheaded innovations that have transformed healthcare systems worldwide. With over 30 years of leadership in medical device innovation and commercialisation, Warren’s work exemplifies a commitment to improving lives and fostering sustainable solutions, from introducing life-saving diagnostic technologies to mentoring future leaders.

Warren’s MedTech career began with a specialisation in endoscopic technologies in gastrointestinal endoscopy. He helped establish market leadership for Pentax Endoscopy in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2001, Warren founded the Australian subsidiary of Given Imaging Ltd, pioneering the introduction of PillCam® technology, an ingestible, pill-sized camera that revolutionised non-invasive visualisation of the gastrointestinal tract. His pioneering work was instrumental in securing the world’s first Medicare Benefits Scheme listing for capsule endoscopy in 2004, making this innovative diagnostic tool accessible and reimbursable in Australia. His leadership helped Given Imaging evolve from a startup to a multinational company with revenues exceeding $250 million before its acquisition by Covidien in 2014.

Leadership Recognition

Warren’s contributions are recognised; he was a finalist in the 2016 Australian Institute of Managements ‘Excellence in Leadership Awards’, and in 2018 was acknowledged by Australia’s Peak Life Science Industry Organisation AusBiotech for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to AusMedtech’, in 2019 was conferred the honorary academic title of Adjunct Fellow, Macquarie University, Department of Management, Faculty of Business and Economics.

More recently, the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) awarded Warren the industry’s highest individual award, the prestigious MTAA Outstanding Achievement Award 2021, for his contribution to industry development, improvement in patient outcomes and excellence in leadership and innovation.

Warren is also deeply committed to donating his time to social causes, community engagement, and advocacy. He leverages his leadership to create meaningful social impact and champions initiatives addressing homelessness and chronic health challenges. As a mentor and coach for programs like CSIRO ON Accelerate, Remarkable Accelerator and HATCH: Taronga, Warren empowers innovators tackling global challenges, from disability tech to conservation. His hands-on coaching helps startups refine strategies, secure funding, and scale solutions, fostering a new generation of leaders prioritising impact alongside innovation. He is often called on to mentor and coach CEOs and leaders.

Warren was a Champion Club Mentor for the Crescent Foundation supporting refugees and Squad mentor for the Australian Clinical Entrepreneur Program.

Warren also developed and ran the inaugural Cicada Innovation’s Medical Device Accelerator, MedLab.

Leadership & Influence

As Co-Vice Chair of the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), Warren drives national reforms, accelerating MedTech innovation and patient access. Representing committees on Digital Health, Women in MedTech and the MedTech conference, he champions policies that streamline clinical trials, enhance telehealth, and promote gender diversity. His advocacy ensures Australia remains a global leader in developing ethical, sustainable medical technology.

Warren is also a member of the Springboard Enterprises LifeSciences Council.

 

Awards & Recognition

Warren’s contributions have earned prestigious accolades. He was selected as a finalist in the Australian Institute of Management’s ‘Excellence in Leadership Awards’ 2016, and awarded AusBiotech’s Outstanding Contribution to AusMedtech (2018).

As Chairman of Macquarie University’s Global MBA, Warren was conferred the honorary title of Adjunct Fellow.

More recently, he was awarded the industry’s highest individual award, the prestigious Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) Outstanding Achievement Award 2021 for his contribution to industry development, improvement in patient outcomes and excellence in leadership and innovation.

Warren also completed the AICD’s Australian Company Directors course in 2015 and has a wide portfolio of board experience as board member and Chair.

Warren is a dedicated Ambassador for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout and Diabetes Australia, championing initiatives that address homelessness and chronic health challenges.

His leadership of the #HealthForHomeless team for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout has united MedTech and Life Sciences CEOs to raise over $169,000. At the same time, his advocacy highlights the intersection of healthcare access and social equity.

Through this leadership, Warren amplifies marginalised voices and drives systemic change.

From backyard garden blitzes as part of the Heart of Glebe to volunteer dog training instruction to supporting Delta Therapy Dog programs, Warren is passionate about giving back through hands-on volunteering and community initiatives. His commitment extends from mentoring and supporting fellow volunteers to improving lives, helping run local programs, contributing to animal-assisted therapy visits, or supporting community gardens and events.

Warren’s facilitation of a high-end medical equipment donation to Taronga Conservation Society Australia further exemplifies his proactive approach, leveraging industry relationships to enhance wildlife care and accessibility.

Through volunteering and strategic partnerships, Warren demonstrates how community engagement and technology can create lasting, positive change for people and the planet.
